      If your arches are overpronating, rolling inwards, and there is a valgus deviation at the ankle the Achilles tendon may be stressed, which can cause additional tension in the calf muscle, which attaches at the back of the knee. Have you tried arch supports or heel lifts?

    Best video about shoe sizing that I have found on youtube! I bought a pair of Asics Kayano 30 size 45 in wide version but they aint snug around my heel. I lace them up really hard with runners knot but they still dont hold my heel as the standard width Kayano. I have one thumb spare in the front of the foot. Should I try to go down half a size to a 44.5 instead? When I place my foot on the insole at the floor (as u showed in the video), my small toes are lying outside the insole on the standard size. The wide versions sole fit all my toes. My old shoe was kayano 28 in size 44 normal width and the sidewalls in the toe box got big holes due to my feet are a bit wide in the forefront. I reckon my old shoe was too small. Thus, I figured 2E (wide) would be a better fit for me. How much space do I need at the front of the toe box? One finger or one thumb? Would going a half size down make the shoes fit better in the heel and give that snug feel? I will only have 7mm and 9 mm extra between toes and front of shoe if I size down. In the wide size 45 I have 10mm and 12 mm extra upfront.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV 4 дня назад

      I would try sizing down in the wide fitting and see how that fits. The wide fitting sometimes fits longer than the regular width, so you may be able to get a better fit for your foot there, especially around the heel. 7 to 9mm should be enough length.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV 4 дня назад

      Great question. Fascia adhesions are like scar tissue. When they form between the fascia, tendons and surrounding muscle tissue they will cause pain under pressure when walking and running. The purpose of the massage is to loosen these tensions to allow the tissue to regenerate itself in a more flexible and pliable manner.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV 4 дня назад

      Night splints can help relieve tension in the fascia and calf muscle. There are many models. Ideally the night splint will pull the toes upward towards the shin while resting. This will prevent the fascia from contracting at night. Some are more sock like, like the Strassburg sock and others are smaller like this one: shopfootsolutions.ca/orthoactive-soft-plantar-fasciitis-night-splint/ - if you don't like sleeping with socks you may not tolerate these well. Stretching the toes upward towards your shin before you get out of bed can achieve the same effect.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV 4 дня назад

      There may be some tight fascia that's causing the toes to come too close together. You may want to practice some fascia release between your 4th and 5th toe. I will put together a video for next week to explain how this is done. Stay tuned.

    So how do you know if correct or too much support?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV 4 дня назад

      The support should feel comfortable under the foot. There should be evenly distributed pressure under the arch. However, you don't want to feel a stabbing feeling like there's a rock in your shoe or someone pushing a fist into your arch (that's too much). If they foot feels tired and painful at the end of the day, the support is too strong or non-existent.

      Based on your description you have a callus under the big toe joint. I would recommend modifying your current insoles with a cutout for the large toe joint, see this video for an example: ruclips.net/video/AaLPnIdp79g/видео.htmlfeature=shared. Adding a good arch support that transfers the pressure from the ball into the arch would also help. However, this would require a full contact orthotic.

      Mostly you'd notice tingling or electric shock type discomforts running through the 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th toe. Swelling may be present between the metatarsal joints and you may notice some pea like shape in between the toe joints (swollen nerve). If there's swelling in the toes and ball of the foot it may be bruising of the metatarsals or a potential stress fracture.

      Can you get these in UK 7.5? UK sizes are usually available in full and half sizes. I wouldn't worry so much about the length being longer, but the shoe gets quite a bit wider as a result and hence will cause your foot to slide around. If you can't try the half size bigger, see if you can get some fillers to tighten up the toe box, so that your toes don't get scrunched. @@FootGeekzTV Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes as you are saying I think it's just a case of me probably worrying a little too much about the 10.5 sneakers "looking" slightly "big". When I first tried them on at the store recently, and then again here at home a couple of nights ago, just standing in place, these shoes don't feel loose or even big. Because they fit fine around the ankle area and up thru the middle of my foot, to the point of my foot where the side of my foot is the widest (I don't remember what you call that). So I realize now that only because I know they are actually a half size bigger than the 10's that fit me perfectly, and because I can see that they look slightly longer - only because of these reasons have I been thinking about this up much since I bought them. So I guess I think unless I find another two size 10's in these exact sneakers at my local store, then I will just keep these 10.5's to use for myself. Btw I looked at your video about how to tighten up shoes that are actually loose, but with these two 10.5's I don't think I need to do that. Since from the base/ankle thru the middle of my foot it feels good in each shoe. So I realize it's only a matter of there being up to half an inch of extra space at the front of the sneaker in front of my toes, and my feet don't feel "loose". I just have to keep my OCD thoughts at a distance! But I thank you again for your reply!

    So I'm a little confused on the width part. My length is a 13, arc is a 13/13.5... but then my width says I'm like a B. I've always worn standard width shoes which I'm pretty sure is D.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      The problem with the width measurement is that the Brannock doesn't take into account the instep height. If a Regular width is fitting well I wouldn't worry about it. If you find yourself putting extra insoles into the shoe or adding fillers under the ball of the foot to tighten up the shoe you may want to consider a narrower shoe. B width isn't easy to come by in men's shoe. Also, certain brands will fit more narrow than others.

  • @camf33
    @camf33 Месяц назад

    It didn't really assisted in the actual measuring and purchasing.. I have a brannock device and despite my perfect measurements all my shoes end up larger by 1 inch or more - and yes before I get the flame I am aware manufacturers, types, and styles, etc are all different, which is no big deal when going to the actual stores, but online is the real challenge, and let's face it, online is perhaps 80% of shopping for the average American. So in conclusion, what's the verdict here?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      We never recommend purchasing shoes online unless you've had a particular model before and know the fit. Ideally shoes should be tried in person to get a feel for the fit and ensure the length and width are appropriate. Since manufacturers aren't mandated to stick to the Brannock measurements they can design their lasts as they choose. The Brannock really only serves as a tool to get a general idea of one's foot size. Most people wear shoes that are too small, so giving people the opportunity to understand how to measure their feet is a step in the appropriate direction of ensuring they purchase footwear that's a better fit for their foot.

    I have a question 🙋🏻‍♀️ I hope you guys are still on RUclips. I heel really bad heel pains, I’ve had shots, that gave relief for about 2 weeks and physical therapy and they showed me how to stretch my calves and ice the area, seen many videos about plantar fasciitis treatment BUT my heels are still in pain. PLEASE let me know the treatment for that. Thank you

      Where exactly are you experiencing heel pain? Is it forward of the heel at the back of the arch or at the back of the heel at the attachment of the Achilles tendon? Or, do you experience heel pain a the bottom of the heel?

    @sunnytoo2655 Месяц назад

    Great video ---Thank You.. How would you stretch a indoor/outdoor moccosin with fur inside them.>? I think they more like a suede than a leather. My big left toe rubs itself raw on the inside top and side--even on 2 new pairs I got.. And I have a brand new pair of high top Reeboks that have to be stretched about 1/2 size to a full size?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      Sounds like you're looking to stretch the shoe in length. If you haven't worn the Reeboks yet, return them and get a bigger size. If they're too lose in the larger size, add toe fillers to tighten up the front of the shoe. Stretching length in shoes is next to impossible, as stretching the material will not lengthen the base of the shoe, which in this case would be too short. Fur or no fur, the shoes would be stretched in a similar fashion. However, stretching shoes in length is difficult.

    Hi! All the expertice I've met the last 18 months has told my i have plantar fasciitis. However my symptoms are not simliar. I do not have any pain the the morning with the first steps. And I only have pain, a increasing burning sensation while standing. Walking barefoot in grass is no problem and even enjoyable. What could it be? Thank you for any tips on this matter.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      Do you stand on hard surfaces? Does the pain present itself at the inner side of the arch, just ahead of the heel bone or is it present somewhere else? Have you been stretching and massaging the arch? If you have a mild case of plantar fasciitis it may not necessarily result in morning discomfort. However, as the condition gets worse it may present itself first thing in the morning.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      @@timknowles6530 I would break up adhesions using the spoon massage discussed in the video. Calf stretches are also appropriate, as well as calf and foot strengthening exercises (calf raises, short foot exercise, towel pick up, etc.). Perhaps consider some form of arch support to use at work if you spend long hours on your feet to reduce overuse of the plantar fascia and tendons.

    If your big toe is right on the line is that the right size or do you go a 1/2 size higher?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV 2 месяца назад

      That depends on the footwear. Some footwear manufacturers add extra spacing to the end of the shoe to allow the size measured to fit well. However, many brands, especially athletic shoes tend to fit short, so you may have to go 1/2 a size or a full size longer to make sure you have enough wiggle room for the toes. You just don't want your toes to be jammed into the end of the shoe, as this can cause ingrown nails, thickened nails or turf toe.

    • @Mattdog45

      @@FootGeekzTV ok so let me elaborate. My big toes sits right on the line of a 12 but my arch length also sits right on the 12. This will be for a pair of running/walking shoes. • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      @@Mattdog45 Does your right foot move around too much, hence causing blisters, or is the right foot wider and hence experiencing more pressure points on the sides? If the right shoe is too loose you can experiment with fillers under the ball of the foot to tighten up the fit: ruclips.net/video/5SbZcrBLJQM/видео.htmlfeature=shared. Or, as you mentioned, you can choose to go with a smaller size on the right to create that improved fit.

    • @Mattdog45
      @Mattdog45 Месяц назад

      @@FootGeekzTV it’s because it moves around too much. I am going to try a heel insert to lengthen the foot a little bit in the shoe, but should I put the insert in a new shoe that’s fresh or in one of my current running shoes that’s already been broken in? It’s a size 13 shoe on a size 12 foot so the insert will lengthen my foot out, will that place the ball of my foot in an area of the shoe that may not conform to where the bend has already taken place?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV Месяц назад

      @@Mattdog45 you can put toe fillers into both new and old pairs of shoes. I would refrain from putting stuff behind the heel and work to fill out the volume in the front of the shoe to create a more secure fit.
